Raden Salèh Danoediredjoe

Raden Salèh was the first Indonesian artist to paint in western style. His contemporaries reproduced established styles and forms whereas Raden Salèh was the first Indonesian artist to express creativity and individual style in his works, thus paving the way for future Indonesian artists to express their own ideas more freely.

He was the son of Sayid Hoesein ben Alwi and Mas Adjeng Zarip Hoesein

Born in Semarang, but his birth date is unknown, probably 1811.
He died in Bogor on 24 April 1880.
Married ? Winkelman in 1864.
Divorced in 1867 remarried Raden Aju Danoediredjoe.
Both marriages remained childless. In his second marriage he had a stepchild
